After writing a thread on cults I realized it might be helpful to literally illustrate what it looks like. So here it is. (click on the image for the full size + description)
P1: an excited orange haired person (standing) is telling an intrigued purple haired person (sitting) "I found a really cool group! you should come to the next meeting with me?" P1: purple haired person's hand is raised "But your plan doesn't make sense?", red laser eyes glare toward the hand against a black background. P2: Orange haired person is excitedly telling the purple haired person "Wasn't that great?! It makes so much sense!". P3: two phone shots, belonging to the purple haired person. First shot: 11pm Tue Birb site: "I went to the meeting and folks...it's bad" Notification underneath: "New Message! from Dear Leader" second shot: 10am Wed "message from Dear Leader: 'Just wanted to check in on you! U there?" (11hrs ago) "I saw your caw - I think you're being unfair and making us look bad. Stop it" (now). P4: Split panel of a phone conversation between the leader and the purple haired person, reiterating the text message "I wanted to ask about why you disagreed. Please don't say anything that would make us look bad"
P1: Leader talking to Orange Haired person: "I'm concerned about your friend" "don't worry, I'm on it" "Good to hear - would you like to be more involved?""yes!" P2: Purple haired person's phone: Message from Dear Leader [old message from 1d ago] "I'd like to meet for coffee to talk. Friday 3pm!" P3: Leader and Purple haired person are at a table with coffee. L"Why don't you like me after everything I've done for your friend?" "You're hurting people" "Nonsense! I would never hurt anyone! I'm showing love! I know what's best!" "I disagree" "then leave. but don't say anything that would make us look bad!" "I won't promise that" P4: Orange haired person with warm fuzzy feelings of belonging and importance
P1: Orange haired person tells their purple haired friend "We shouldn't question the leader in public, it hurts the movement" P2: Orange Haired person's phone: (on the birbsite. @leaderspet) notification: "leader follows you" "leader liked your caw 'our leader is 100!' sent 5d ago" P3: Leader at the podium, audience including orange haired person in foreground. Leader "If you see posts on social media that make us look bad, report them to me. If someone challenges us, what do we do?" audience raising fists "Explain how they're wrong!" P4: leader raising fist: "We are right and will do everything it takes to win! Anyone who disagrees is wrong and will lose! We will not stop!"
P1: Orange Haired person's phone: 5pm Friday Convo with Leader: "Can you help with logistics?" (1hr ago) "Sure!" "I think your friend is out to get us"(now) P2: Orange hair person (now wearing an orange ribbon) talking to purple haired person, separated by two dashed parallel lines (emotional/physical distance) OH: "I know you disagree, but this is important work. Our leader knows best" Purple haired person looks dejected. P3: Leader at the podium with a powerpoint (audience in front) "I want to be transparent so this is The Process" Slide: "Steps: - Talk to me, I'll Decide, You comply". P4: Leader at podium without power point "if there's something you want to change, come talk to me about it!"
P1: Split panel of a conversation between Orange haired person and the Leader. OH: "I have some concerns" "don't worry, I know what to do" "what about...?" "Do you not trust me? I've thought about it, just follow my lead" "okay" P2: phone shot: (birb site) @leaderspet "TFW meetings are intense (sent 2min ago)" Notification: "New Text! from leader: 'saw your caw! let's talk tomorrow?' [Reply]" P3: Split Panel phone conversation between Orange Haired person and Leader: "You don't want to be asked to leave like your friend do you? I NEED you here" OH looks confused. P4: Leader talks to a burgundy haired recruit "I've noticed how dedicated you are, would you like to be more involved?" "absolutely!"
